Patrick & Michelle

Patrick & Michelle  //  We first met through work in 2003, but didn’t start dating until the end of 2005. A couple (quick) years later, we married. Now we travel through life together, working to reach our common goals and having a whole lot of fun doing so.

One room down and five to go.....I think

Painting has moved to the top of our "to do" or should I say Patrick's "honey do list". ;) (wink wink) I had to work this weekend but Patrick stepped up to the challenge and started our painting project. Armed with eco-friendly paint in a warm gold tone and some brushes he attacked the guest bathroom with a gusto few have seen. A mere 6 hours later he was walking out of the bathroom wiping off his brush and his head held high. He was finishing up as I returned home and I was amazed at the progress and the transformation. It started out a light sea foam green with hand-prints on the walls and now it is a beautiful warm gold color (we originally thought of going brown but quickly decided that might be too dark without any natural light. The more it dries the happier I am with the color choice, we can accent it with reds, blues or greens. It's going to be beautiful when it's finished. As I came into admire his hard-work, he did let me know that unfortunately we did have a few casualties, the celling and baseboards are going to need a little attention, somehow the paintbrush got away from him. When I walk by the bathroom, I take a moment to relish, in the thought that we have checked something off of our to do list, well it's mostly checked off. Next step, return to the home improvement store to pick up some eco-friendly white paint for our casualties. I will keep you posted on our painting progress.

Everything in it's place and a place for everything...

well almost everything. There are still more decisions to make. We have been in our new home for just over two weeks (already feels longer than that) and we love it. We have been working towards for two years and now that we are here we couldn't be happier. Thanks to the amazing generosity of our families we were able to make a few additions. Slowly making plans to make our house a home. (although to be honest it felt like home the first moment I pulled into the garage). Patrick has a bounce (and if you know him that is saying a lot) to his step and a big smile floats easily across his face. He is so excited about our future and all the possibilities. His smile and excitement makes me smile and appreciate him more and more.

We have started going to home improvement stores to figure things we need to purchase. The first item on our "to do" list is painting, a big task for sure but we are up to the challenge. We do have to be a little careful that we don't take on too many projects in the first month. I'll try and keep you posted on the status of our many projects.

the "I'm Bored" perspective

Growing up, we quickly learned not to proclaim, "I'm bored" while my dad was within earshot. Why? Because that two word exclamation was the trigger for a list of chores that was delegated out from his own never-ending list of things to do around the house.

Growing up, I hate any physical labor in any form. If it came with "have to", is was hated to the full capacity of hatred.

Grown up, and with my own home to take care of, I make a conscious effort to refrain from proclaiming "I'm bored" out loud. Not for fear of my father miraculously hearing it and then subsequently assigning me chores (though, I think he has that power), but because of my own internal guilt and fear that my responsible adult self will assign my unmotivated slacker self some household chore or task to complete. Because there are a lot of things I should be doing; things that really do carry the "have to" label.

Yep, my dad has taught me quite well.

We don't like our oven

It's daily old, and so at very inconsistent with its cooking times. Burned a few meals already. We may replace it sooner than we planned.

We're homeowners now!

After what seemed to be a never-ending escrow, we finally closed (on 12/31/2009) just before the year ended. We spend New Year's Day finishing our packing and cleaning out our apartment, and finally moved into our new home on 1/2/2010. I can't begin to describe the amount of weight we felt leave our shoulders, and the sighs of relief upon spending our first night in our new abode.

Yesterday, our new appliances were delivered and installed (refrigerator, washer and dryer). We're working to get unpacked and settled, and suffering through the lack of TV and internet service until early next week (lost our place in the installation line because we constantly were changing our install dates).

But we can't convey how happy we are, and are very much looking forward to 2010 with no more rent payments, and an actual home we can build and grow with.

Almost There

Both of us breathed a sigh of relief this morning. Our escrow is going to close, TODAY. We are so happy and thankful to be at this point, for a little while we weren't really sure we would get here, dealing with all the little challenges and delays but we have made it. Thank you to everyone that has helped us get to this point. Thank you to all of our family and friends for their support. We really appreciate it. The next week is going to be crazy as we try and get settled but we couldn't be happier. We are excited to begin the next chapter of our lives.

still waiting on escrow...

Red tape. Well, not really that bad. A minor technicality is holding us up. Not our fault - it's something between the city and FHA. They're working it out. In the meantime, we're still packing and prepping and watching for the phone call saying. "good to go!".
