Patrick & Michelle // We first met through work in 2003, but didn’t start dating until the end of 2005. A couple (quick) years later, we married. Now we travel through life together, working to reach our common goals and having a whole lot of fun doing so.
Growing up, we quickly learned not to proclaim, "I'm bored" while my dad was within earshot. Why? Because that two word exclamation was the trigger for a list of chores that was delegated out from his own never-ending list of things to do around the house.
Growing up, I hate any physical labor in any form. If it came with "have to", is was hated to the full capacity of hatred.
Grown up, and with my own home to take care of, I make a conscious effort to refrain from proclaiming "I'm bored" out loud. Not for fear of my father miraculously hearing it and then subsequently assigning me chores (though, I think he has that power), but because of my own internal guilt and fear that my responsible adult self will assign my unmotivated slacker self some household chore or task to complete. Because there are a lot of things I should be doing; things that really do carry the "have to" label.
Yep, my dad has taught me quite well.
After what seemed to be a never-ending escrow, we finally closed (on 12/31/2009) just before the year ended. We spend New Year's Day finishing our packing and cleaning out our apartment, and finally moved into our new home on 1/2/2010. I can't begin to describe the amount of weight we felt leave our shoulders, and the sighs of relief upon spending our first night in our new abode.
Yesterday, our new appliances were delivered and installed (refrigerator, washer and dryer). We're working to get unpacked and settled, and suffering through the lack of TV and internet service until early next week (lost our place in the installation line because we constantly were changing our install dates).
But we can't convey how happy we are, and are very much looking forward to 2010 with no more rent payments, and an actual home we can build and grow with.
